Lisa Receives Standing Ovation at Dudley Ladies 2014 Presentation

Dudley Ladies Running Club again held it’s annual presentation evening at Linden House, in Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton on Friday 27th July.

This was where beginners and established runners alike were recognised for their achievements over the past year but the Star of the night was by far and away Lisa Davies who received a standing ovation and hero's welcome from everyone that attended.

Proceedings began at 7.30pm when Rita welcomed everyone to the event before starting the evening off with a loud explosion of party poppers and sitting down to a silver service three course meal of either Minestrone Soup or Iced Melon with Ginger for starters, Chicken Chasseur or Roast Topside of Beef or Feta Cheese & Broccoli Bake for main course, with Profiteroles in Hot Bailey’s Sauce or Strawberries & Cream for dessert

Following the meal, which everyone said was excellent, Rita allowed Phil his once a year treat to speak in public.

The presentations were then begun proper by Rita and Phil awarding the beginners their medals, certificates and tee-shirts for running a minimum of 3 miles during their recent 10 week beginners course.

That done the evening then moved on to the individual award winners and as Rita explained, that this year was even more difficult than ever, with everyone having a good case to put.

Beginner of the Year went to Laura Harries, which proved to be a very popular choice, who by strength of sheer personality and willpower, went from absolute scratch to running well over her 3 mile target and beyond all with a smile on her face and a helping hand to others around her.

The overall Runner of the Year went to Lisa Davies.

And for the first time in the near 20 years that we have been doing this, when Lisa's name was called out, everyone in the room stood up and applauded her as she walked from the back of the room through the throngs of cheering people on her way to the stage to receive her award.

Everybody knows Lisa's story, it was very emotional and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when Lisa said a few words to thank everyone for their support over what has been a very difficult year.

And to top it all, the evening raised £178 for Lisa's designated Prostrate Cancer charity with special thanks to Paul and Maggie Bolton, Helen Nuttall, Ru and Kelly Dunn for selling the tickets and helping on the night.

Runner of the Year – Lisa Davies

This year Runner of the Year was never in any doubt for Phil, myself or anybody.

It could only go to one person because this lady is a true inspiration.

She started as an absolute Beginner last year and since then she has shown true determination and guts to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

You by now may have guessed who this lady is. If not here are a few more clues.

She leads a very busy life as a nurse and mother of a young lady who is 6 coming on 26.

Since running her first 3 miles last year she has gone on to do a 10k, a half marathon and finally the London Marathon.

Her motivation has been her brother and she has done it all for him.

Lisa Davies you are an inspiration to us all and we are all so very proud of you.

You are our Runner of the Year 2014

Clubwomen of the Year – Maggie Bolton & Helen Nuttall

This is the award we give to club woman of the year.

This is usually given to someone who has always given 100% to Dudley Ladies.

Someone who helps advises and supports everyone in the club.

They have to be very special people who care about the club over and beyond the norm.

Care enough to come in all weathers, all year round and support and help Phil and myself.

Care enough to beaver away in the background to help organise and run Dudley Ladies.

We have such a person here in our club, infact, we have two.

Two very special ladies who we have chosen to be our Club Women of the Year 2014.

Helen Nuttall and Maggie Bolton.

Beginner of the Year – Laura Harries

This award is for the Beginner who we think has added the most value to themselves since joining the course.

The person doesn’t have to be the fittest or the fastest in the group.

We judge it by the standard they were when they first came and what they can do now.

And this lady has come on in leaps and bounds.

And as an added bonus, she has been such a positive, popular and bubbly lady to have on the course.

She always turns up with a smile and a positive attitude and she has gone on to achieve more than the 3 miles that was set for her.

She went on holiday but she came back even stronger and more determined than ever.

It must have been the rest, the food and whatever else she was getting while she was away.

And she thoroughly deserves her achievements being recognised.

So we are very pleased to announce that Laura Harries is Dudley Ladies 2014 Beginner of the Year.

Come Back Queen – Dee Yarnall

This is an award that we give to someone who has had time away from running for whatever reason but has come back and shone. It’s the Come Back Queen Award.

The winner of this award is a very special lady. She does a lot more than just run with the club. She encourages, befriends, organises and inspires others to achieve their goals.

She had time away and we all missed her very much but now she’s back and running again and we are so pleased for her.

We hope you stay because we are so lucky to have such a wonderful person as a member of our club.

Welcome back Dee Yarnall.
